Building Connections
In the wake of Spring 2020–with the advent of the COVID pandemic, continued violence against Black Americans, and the further tightening of restrictions on immigration and international travel–we know NOW MORE THAN EVER that our pedagogy needs to center building connections & inclusive community across campus, sharing resources and assignments that can pivot from classroom to remote learning, and providing networks of support for ourselves & our students.
The College of Wooster's "Building Connections: Course (Re)Design Workshop" will be offered twice virtually this summer for faculty & staff engaged in teaching during the 2020-2021 academic year (June 22-26 and July 6-10). It will also be available as a curated set of lessons on Moodle afterward.
- Day 1: "Backward" Course Design & Creating Communities of Learners with Lauren Cardon (University of Alabama)
- Day 2: Designing an Accessible & Visually Engaging Course Shell with Anne-Marie Womack (Tulane University), creator of www.accessiblesyllabus.com
- Day 3: Engaging Students: Making Assignments (& Assessments) Meaningful facilitated by our EdTech staff & Faculty Teaching Liaisons (FTLs) & Library Faculty
- Day 4: Building (and Modeling) Resiliancy & Collaboration facilitated by members of Wooster's Care Team (including staff from the Center for Diversity & Inclusion, Wellness Center, Learning Center, and Dean of Students) + EdTech staff & FTLs
- Day 5: In the Classroom: Strategies for Discussion & Delivery facilitated by EdTech staff & FTLs
- Follow-up: connect regularly with your Teaching Cohort--or during an intensive burst--over the summer)
